Barça in search of a midfielder
Wijnaldum was one of four players Joan Laporta was hoping to bring in this summer, alongside Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia and Memphis Depay, a lead yet to be confirmed. Laporta will therefore scramble to find a replacement, given that the club had halted talks with other similar options. It seems likely that Barca’s president will have to pay to bring in another profile, which is not ideal given how little money Barcelona have this summer. Mikel Merino and Fabian Ruiz have been mentioned by Iberian media, but at € 30m and € 50m respectively, the Blaugrana will struggle to line up.
