Timo Werner believes Chelsea can repeat their FA Cup exploits against Manchester City and become “the best team in the world”.
An all-English final is set in the European elite competition, with Thomas Tuchel’s side edging out La Liga giants Real Madrid to move closer to the ultimate trophy.
Timo Werner believes the residents of Stamford Bridge can secure a place at the top of world football at the expense of City.
Werner, a scorer in the 2-0 win over Real in the second leg of the C1 semi-final on Wednesday night, told reporters his ambition: “We know we can do it.”
“We saw in a game like City when we won in the FA Cup semi-finals. We have done it so often this season against good teams. It means we are not afraid in any final.”
“You have to be honest and say that City may be the best team in the world right now. You want to play against the best. “
“We are in the Champions League final and it is normal that you play against the best team and maybe we can win this game and we can become the best team in the world for this year.”
“I think our team can win against all the teams in the world and we showed that against Man City. They remember the semi-final.”
“They will give everything for the title because this is their first final. Like many of the players on our team. We will give everything until the end.”
Tuchel is heading for a second consecutive Champions League final, having led Paris Saint-Germain to this point last season.
