PSG midfielder Marco Verratti has just tested positive for Covid-19. Placed in isolation, he will miss the shock against Bayern.
PSG issued a press release this Friday evening, indicating that one of its players has tested positive for Covid-19. And this is a key element of Mauricio Pochettino’s team, in this case Marco Verratti.
The Italian international, who had returned prematurely from his reunion with the Italian selection due to injury, will have to “Observe a period of isolation and will be subject to the appropriate health protocol”. This means that he will not participate in the big shock against Bayern, scheduled for next Wednesday in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
A big blow for PSG
“Le Petit Hibou” will certainly be missed by his family during this continental meeting. And this is not the only absence from which the French champions could suffer at the Allianz Arena. Leandro Paredes is suspended, and there are still uncertainties regarding the presence of Danilo Pereira and Layvin Kurzawa. In addition, Neymar is not yet in top form, having only participated in 20 minutes of play in a month and a half.
This is the second time that Verratti has contracted this virus. He had already been infected last summer after Final 8 in the Champions League and had to miss the first matches of the season in Ligue 1.
At the time, he was singled out along with several of his teammates for taking a vacation in Ibiza without taking the necessary precautions. This time it will be hard to blame him, as he seems to have been the victim of the “cluster” that has appeared within Squadra Azzurra in recent days. All Roberto Mancini’s staff would be contaminated and Leonardo Bonucci, the back of Juventus, also tested positive a few hours ago.
As a reminder, it was because of a contusion in his left thigh that Verratti missed the last match of La Nazionale. He had been withdrawn from the duel against LOSC on Saturday, but there was a sense of optimism regarding his recovery before the trip to Bayern. In the end, the accelerated care will unfortunately have been of no use.
