Jorge Sampaoli has revealed that he wants to make OM a competitive club for the Ligue 1 title but admits that the club’s financial capacity worries him.
Just arrived at OM, Jorge Sampaoli still has a lot of work to do for next season. Eager to strengthen its workforce after the departures of Florian Thauvin and Hiroki Sakai, the Argentinian technician wishes to give back a beautiful image to Olympique de Marseille as he explained this Friday at a press conference.
” The idea is to make a competitive team next season like Lille, Monaco or Lyon, to be a team that can take advantage of a failure of PSG, but everything will depend on the economic capacity of the club, he explained. It is not the same thing to rebuild a team to 60% or 80% and to strengthen it ”.
Sampaoli held back by OM’s financial difficulties
But the former Argentina coach explained that OM’s economic resources did not allow recruiting for all positions. “We will have to see the economic capacity to know where we are going. We have the ability to build a competitive team, but it will take economic and also creative resources. (…) I only intervene on the desired profile in relation to the system I want to set up. I do not have control over economic matters. I suggested 3 or 4 profiles per position, depending on the style of play I want, ”added the Marseille technician.
