Roberto Carlos attacks Barça and refereeing

The former Real Madrid defender claims that Real are favored by refereeing.

Roberto Carlos, former Real Madrid player and current director of institutional relations at the club, has fiercely criticized referee Santiago Jaime Latre for his performance in Barcelona’s game against Real Valladolid.

The Brazilian has expressed his frustration on social media that Valladolid did not receive a penalty after a hand from Jordi Alba.

“I’m sure this referee will be in charge of a certain game this weekend as a reward for today,” Roberto Carlos tweeted in reference to next weekend’s Clasico.

Later in the game, in the 79th minute, Oscar Plano received a direct red for a tackle on Ousmane Dembele. On social media, the decision baffled many on both sides of the Real Madrid / Barcelona divide.

Valladolid’s frustration was compounded at the very end of the game, as Dembele scored in the 90th minute to secure a 1-0 win for Barcelona and ensure they stayed above Los Blancos heading into the Clasico.

Now Ronald Koeman’s men find themselves one point behind Los Rojiblancos in the La Liga table, with the impression that Barcelona have become the new favorites to win the title. In addition, on Saturday they will face Real Madrid in the second Clasico of the season at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.

Atletico are going through a difficult period, which recently saw the Madrid club lose 1-0 to Sevilla last Sunday, while Barcelona find a way to win games, as evidenced by their latest result against Real Valladolid on Monday night.

In the last 10 league games, the Colchoneros have recorded four wins, four draws and two losses, meaning they have dropped 14 points in that span.

On the contrary, Barcelona have been a machine at national level for the past two months, after falling behind Atletico by 12 points the Catalans are only one point behind and the title is in their hands.
