Real Madrid’s next game will take place on Tuesday, October 19 against Shakhtar Donetsk and not this weekend against Athletic Club.
Next game officially postponed for Real Madrid! The National Sports Council (CSD) has indeed postponed this match, as well as that of Granada against Atletico Madrid.
A decision once again contested
Just like when two games were suspended on La Liga Matchday 4 after the last international break, the reasoning here is exactly the same: CONEMBOL players who return late could not participate, so the games were moved.
This decision is likely to spark another controversy, not least because it was taken by the CSD, a government body, and not by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
Not to miss
Last time around, when Sevilla vs Barcelona and Villarreal vs Alaves were postponed, RFEF formally challenged the CSD decision, to no avail, and are said to be re-considering their options.
The only certainty is that there are now four La Liga games that need to be revamped. This situation is considered untenable, as the LaLiga schedule is not expected to be under this pressure because of the CONEMBOL schedule.
