Real Madrid v Villarreal match summary, 22/05/2021, La Liga

Real Madrid – Villarreal (2-1), victory for Real Madrid

Real won their last league game, but the three points collected were insufficient to conquer the title.

Real Madrid descend from their throne of Spanish champions. The Castilians needed a miracle on the final day to get past Atlético Madrid but it didn’t happen. The Rojiblancos having won their match against Valladolid (2-1), thus winning the national title seven years after their last consecration.

Having won their meeting, Real may have regrets but they will still be measured. Because during most of the game the Merengue had to run behind the score, and it was only on the edge, and with the energy of desperation, that they managed to turn the tide.

In the 20th minute of play, Yeremi Pino scored in favor of the visitors of a conclusion with the end of the outside of the foot following a nice throw-in from Gerard Moreno. An achievement to which the Merengue have long been unable to respond. To tell the truth, they did not put the necessary ingredients in this perspective until the final start.

Their first period was very bland, and the second was not much brighter, even if there was a happy finish.

The useless revolt of the Madrilenians

Karim Benzema found the flaw in the lead in the 58th, but his achievement was invalidated due to a questionable offside. Five minutes later, the French international stood out again, this time without managing to surprise Geronimo Rulli.

In the 87th minute, Benzema finally found the mark by placing a strike with the flat of the right foot in the top corner. One achievement followed by another, written by Luka Modric. The Croatian gave the victory to his people on a beautiful sequence of control then cross strike in the box.

In the end, Real won the day, but the points gleaned were useless. This outing is a reflection of his season, namely extremely frustrating. For the second time in three years, the Madrilenians are making a big splash in terms of the trophies they have won.
