In search of future talent, Real Madrid would like to get rid of big salaries like those of Bale and Marcelo.
Zidane, Sergio Ramos after Cristiano Ronaldo two years ago. At Real Madrid, it’s a very big page in the history of the club that is gradually closing. Abandoned by three of its legends, the Madrid club is now at a crossroads. Deprived of his title of champion by Atlético Madrid, he quickly wishes to regain his national and European throne.
To do so, Florentino Perez did not procrastinate for long. With the Covid-19 crisis which has affected all clubs, the Madrid president knows he must sell before he can take action. With tracks leading to Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappé, you better have a few million euros more in the bank account. The Merengue therefore count on the sale of several elements to replenish the coffers.
According to ABC, Raphaël Varane, Luka Jovic, Dani Ceballos, Isco, Alvaro Odriozola, Mariano Diaz and Brahim Diaz must bring back a check for 160 million euros thanks to their sale. This is Real Madrid’s dream plan. The reality will necessarily be quite different for players who did not necessarily have playing time last season outside of Varane.
Even though a check for 160 million euros would arrive on Perez’s desk, Real Madrid do not want to stop there in their downsizing. According to the Spanish daily, the cases of Gareth Bale and Marcelo are giving management headaches.
With salaries of respectively 21 and 16 million euros gross, the two thirty-something now represent a weight in Madrid’s finances. The goal is therefore to find an agreement with the players to release them from this last year which will cost the club dearly.
At 33, Marcelo is in no hurry to find a new base. If he was overtaken in the hierarchy on the left by Ferland Mendy, sitting on the bench with such emoluments should not be a very big constraint.
Regarding Bale, the Welshman has already announced that he will say more about his future after the end of Euro 2020 with his selection. Qualified for the knockout stages, we will have to wait a little longer. Not the strong point of Perez and Real Madrid.
