Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema admitted he was one of the many players who dreamed of winning the Ballon d’Or at some point
It has been nearly impossible for any other player in Europe to receive the prestigious award in recent years, with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo having dominated the award.
“[Gagner le Ballon d’Or] doesn’t make me lose sleep, even if it’s every player’s dream, “Benzema said at the press conference before Los Blancos entered the Champions League against Inter.
“What I want is to help the team. All the players want to win it and so do I.”
Not to miss
Benzema went on to stress that Real Madrid aim to emerge victorious from this Champions League campaign as they have attempted to do in all previous seasons.
“For me, the Champions League is the highest competition and it’s the one that has the most pressure,” added Benzema.
“For me, there is no favorite. On the pitch, we think that one team will win and then another will win. We have a great team and we are going to fight to win it.”
Vinicius Junior has proven himself this season. The Brazilian striker has scored four goals in four LaLiga Santander games and the France international has claimed his teammate is an elite talent.
“Vinicius is a young player who now has experience at this club,” Benzema said.
“He scores goals, but he helps us with other things, like his speed. I’ve always been with him and I can help him be more successful.
“I believe in him, he is a high level player.”
