The Austria international is capable of operating in defense or in midfield, but it remains to be seen where he will play for the Merengue.
David Alaba will bring all his versatility to Real Madrid. After a 13-year stay at Bayern Munich, the Austrian international has decided to give a new twist to his career by joining the Merengue. But, the Austrian does not yet know how he will be used on the side of Santiago Bernabeu. For now, the Austria international is fulfilling all the roles his country requires at Euro 2020, with the 28-year-old currently being used as a playmaker and central defensive midfielder.
Alaba justifies his choice to join Real Madrid
David Alaba has also played in a role on the attacking side in recent weeks, while finding himself often used in central defense especially during his last season at the Allianz Arena. Very versatile, the Austrian player performs well in several positions although he is mainly considered an elite player on the left side of the defense, or even in central defense.
With the departure of Sergio Ramos, Real Madrid are expected to use Alaba in the middle, but he told the official UEFA website when asked to choose his best position: ” For a long time, I played left defender at Bayern Munich; more recently i played as a central defender, before that i played in midfield from time to time. So what does the positio n favorite? I’m happy to play where I can help the team the most. “

A defender at heart
David Alaba seems more comfortable playing defense, whether on the left side or in the center line, and the Austrian who won 10 Bundesliga titles and two Champions League crowns during his time at the Bayern Munich feel comfortable in the role they currently play with Austria. There is therefore a tension between the personal desires of the player and the position where he is the most efficient on the field.
Real Madrid, Zidane hails “legend” Sergio Ramos
When asked what he liked most about this position, Alaba said: ” I think you have a lot of influence on the game in this position both ways – on offense and defense. You get a different perspective on the game, maybe you can read it differently. You have a lot of the ball in this position, you can further define the pace and influence in the construction of the game.
David Alaba is leaving Bayern Munich at the end of his contract, with a stint in Spain as a free player. He has signed a five-year contract with Real Madrid and will be part of a summer refreshment at the Santiago Bernabeu which has already seen Carlo Ancelotti replace Zinedine Zidane on the sidelines. David Alaba will therefore find the Italian he knew at Bayern Munich.
