The two stars of PSG land in the famous manga and will face Olive and Tom.
If you’re an 80s kid, you couldn’t escape the Olive and Tom (Captain Tsubasa in Japan) phenomenon.
This famous manga created by Yoichi Takahashi tells the story of Olivier Atton (Tsubasa Ozora in vo) who dreams of becoming the best footballer in the world. He will face many opponents in Japan before leaving for Brazil and then coming to play in Europe at FC Barcelona.
The success of the manga, still being published in Japan, has never been denied and has been the subject of numerous adaptations with a famous cartoon and several video games.
Not to miss
One of these video games is Captain Tsubasa Dream Team, available on iOS and Android. Launched in 2017, it has no less than 40 million downloads worldwide.
To satisfy the users of Captain Tsubasa Dream Team, the publisher of this game, the Japanese company KLAB, asked Yoichi Takahashi to imagine a narrative arc only for the video game.
Called “Next Dream”, this new story sends the heroes of the manga to play in the biggest European clubs in order to participate in the Champions League.
We obviously find Olivier Atton at Barça while the famous Mark Landers (Kojiro Hyuga) wears the Juventus jersey. For his part, Bruce Harper (Ryo Ishizaki in vo) joins Inter Milan and Patrick Everett (Shun Nitta in vo ..) signs to Borussia Dortmund. As for the famous goalkeeper Thomas Price (Genzo Wakabayashi in vo) he is recruited by Bayern Munich.
But the big surprise of “Next Dream” is to see two real players appear: Neymar and Mbappé. Renamed Leymar (or Reymar, it depends on the Japanese pronunciation) and Mbappa for rights reasons, the two stars of PSG wear the jersey of the Parisian club without the logo (again for a matter of rights).
It is not yet clear exactly when Leymar and Mbappa will be playable in Captain Tsubasa Dream Team but it is only a matter of weeks.
For the record, this is not the first time that Yoichi Takahashi integrates real players in Olive and Tom. In the manga, we thus find stars of the years 90-2000 like Zédane (for Zinédine Zidane), Rivaul (for Rivaldo) or even Fago (for Luis Figo).
