For Luka Modric, there was no room for doubt: Real Madrid are where they want to be, and there is no better place on earth
The Croatian signed a contract extension as soon as it was on the table, even if that meant taking a 10% pay cut and complying with the club’s wish to take things one year at a time.
“It means a lot to me, it fills me with pride. It means I will be here for 10 years, which I did not expect because I was 27 when I arrived and the demands in this club are huge to see if you deserve to stay, ”Modric told Real Madrid’s official TV channel.
“There is nothing better than being a Real Madrid player, playing for [l’Estadio Santiago] Bernabeu … there is nothing better. “
“Everyone wants to come here and for me it will be 10 years.”
The midfielder is eager for the challenges ahead but has naturally reflected on some of his many successes with Los Blancos.
“There are a lot of beautiful moments: winning the 10th Champions League and winning the double in 2016/17 was great,” said Modric.
“[L’année de] 2018 was amazing on a personal level, the Champions League final I enjoyed the most was in Cardiff [en 2017].
“What we’ve done in those nine years is irreplaceable. You think of the four Champions Leagues and, if I’m honest, I didn’t expect it.”
Real Madrid won their third Champions League in a row in 2018 and Modric explained how Zinedine Zidane helped motivate the team up front.
“Zidane showed us videos of sports dynasties, basketball, American football …” Modric said.
“He told us if anyone could win that much in a row it was Real Madrid, and we did.”
