Pedri has become a regular at the first team alongside Lionel Messi at Barcelona, but watching the captain in training is always an e
Rising Barcelona star Pedri admits he’s still shocked at some of the things Lionel Messi can do in training.
The midfielder has established himself as a key part of Ronald Koeman’s plans in his debut season at Camp Nou after arriving from Las Palmas.
The 18-year-old has played 43 times in all competitions, more than any other Barca player in 2020-2021, scoring three goals and providing six assists.
Pedri has created 50 scoring chances in those games, a tally improved by just four teammates, with Messi a remarkable 31 out of 101 top clearance. Messi has been directly involved in 40 goals this season, the fourth best tally among the players of the five best European leagues, but his best form has come since the start of the year: the Argentine star has scored or provided an assist in each of his last 14 La Liga games.
This form has helped Barca enjoy an 18-game unbeaten streak in La Liga, the current longest streak of its kind in Europe’s top five leagues, which puts them in an ideal position ahead of Sunday’s Clasico.
For Pedri, training alongside Barca captain remains an experience to be savored. “I have said it many times, when I was young, I supported Barca, and I dreamed of doing what I do now,” he said, in remarks given to LaLiga World.
“I’m just trying to forget that I’m playing alongside Leo, or [Sergio] Busquets, or any of the other amazing players on this team. I’m just trying to get over it all and imagine playing in the playground at home. It really helps me have more fun. “
“It’s really amazing, but although you’ve seen Leo Messi on TV and live, he still knocks you out with what he does in training sessions. I enjoy every day with him and I try. to learn as much as I can from him. “
