OM’s defense leader, Alvaro Gonzalez could sign a new lease with Marseille.
Very happy at OM, as he said several weeks ago to the press, the Spaniard could extend an adventure that began in 2019 with a loan, before a final transfer in the summer of 2020 ( for 4 million euros). According to information from Provence, Pablo Longoria, the president of the Marseille club, would have started discussions with Alvaro Gonzalez for an extension of his lease, which ends in 2023. A two-year extension, until 2025, is under consideration. At that time, Alvaro will then be 35, compared to 31 currently.
It remains to be seen in what condition this extension will be made: will Pablo Longoria propose, like Steve Mandanda and Dimitri Payet in the recent past, to extend by accepting a reduction, substantial or not, in salary? Currently, the Spaniard earns 240,000 euros per month, or 2.9 million per year. Note that Pablo Longoria is also discussing an extension with Florian Thauvin and Jordan Amavi, both at the end of their contract this summer.
This season, Alvaro Gonzalez confirms his status as boss: the central defender has played 25 L1 games (out of 30 possible), and 33 games in all, for 1 goal and 3 assists.
