Liverpool-Real Madrid – The Madrid bus stoned arriving at Anfield

The Real Madrid bus was attacked by Reds supporters on the way to Anfield.

Liverpool is seeing its old demons of hooliganism resurface. The bus carrying Real Madrid players was indeed attacked while traveling to Anfield for the match between the Spanish club and their English counterpart in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Between eight hundred and one thousand Reds supporters were massed around the stadium and some of them threw stones at the Madrid bus, a window of which was broken. No player or staff member was injured.

Emilio Butragueño, vice-president of Real Madrid, expressed his outrage at the microphone of Movistar, the Spanish Champions League broadcaster, after arriving at the stadium: “It is unfortunate that such an incident is happening. Today it must be the feast of football. It’s one of the most beautiful matches a fan can see and it’s a shame. The Liverpool board has apologized to us. “

A spokesperson for Liverpool also explained that everything would be in place to identify the perpetrators of the attack: “We strongly condemn the attack on the Real Madrid bus when it arrived at Anfield. This is totally unacceptable and shameful behavior on the part of a few individuals. We sincerely apologize to Real Madrid for the damage caused. We will work with the police to determine the timeline and identify the culprits. “
