Despite the presence of Raiola and the player’s father in Barcelona and Madrid, an arrival from Halaland is almost impossible because of the salary requested.
Whether Erling Braut Haaland is the goalscorer wanted by half of Europe is an open secret. However, as Goal Learned, his signing is practically unaffordable for the economy of any club. On April 1, there was a transfer market-wide 7.5 earthquake with the double visit of Mino Riola, the player’s agent, accompanied by Alf-Inge, the footballer’s father, in Barcelona first and in Madrid later.
Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, had a meeting in Barcelona in the morning and a few hours later Raiola and Haaland’s father appeared at Valdebebas, Real Madrid’s training center, to meet José Ángel Sánchez, general manager of the club.
According to reliable sources, the visit to Valdebebas had already been arranged before, after a request from Erling Haaland’s own father, who wanted to know about the Merengue facilities, to which Madrid agreed.
However, Raiola wanted to make an earlier stopover in Barcelona to also meet with the Barca president, aware of the media impact that this whirlwind trip would have first in Barcelona and then in Madrid, where the press was able to photograph and record the arrival of the delegation at each meeting with the executive of Barça and Madrid.
An astronomical salary: 35 million net per season
Although Real Madrid and Barcelona are really interested in Haaland, it is currently very difficult for both clubs to be able to sign them. Both clubs will continue to work on the signing, but at the moment they have a long way to go in meeting Raiola’s financial demands in order to reach a deal with Haaland.
As Goal learned, a few months ago, an English club tried to make a move to sign the Norwegian and ended up giving up because the player’s agent demanded an astronomical salary for the striker: 35 million euros net per season. These numbers have dampened the interest of this English club and right now Real Madrid and Barcelona know it is an unaffordable amount.
Signing Haaland would mean breaking the pay scale
In the case of Barça, while waiting for an in-depth audit to be carried out to clarify the real state of its economy, paying 35 million net per year would be impossible. And in the case of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez would not be willing to break the dressing room pay scale by paying that money for Haaland, no matter how much the player loves Real.
In other words, in order for Haaland to join Madrid or Barca, the sum requested by Raiola from the aforementioned English club would have to be significantly lowered. And in addition, the clubs will have to pay a succulent commission for the transfer.
Dortmund, a tough negotiator who doesn’t want to sell
In Dortmund, the leaders remain calm. They close the exit door to Haaland. Despite the losses the club are suffering from Covid-19, which could be made worse if he does not ultimately qualify for the Champions League, they repeat that they do not need to sell him. Hans-Joachim Watzke, CEO of the club, and Michael Zorc, sporting director, have a clear roadmap.
They have had several conversations with Haaland, also with his agent and his father, and at the moment they have no plans to sell him. And if a club were to engage in a negotiation between clubs, it is clear for Dortmund that they would impose almost prohibitive conditions to negotiate the transfer.
150 million euros for Haaland
In Dortmund, they know that Haaland has a contract until 2024. They know the interest of Real Madrid, Barcelona and several English teams for the player, but they will only agree to sell for an amount close to 150 million euros. Dortmund leaders are tough in negotiation and showed it last summer when they demanded $ 120million for Jadon Sancho. As Manchester United couldn’t reach that amount, the England winger ended up staying. Dortmund will not make any sales. Either the clubs pay what the German club asks, or Haaland will stay in the Bundesliga.
