The seasoned winger has been included in Roberto Martinez’s final roster for this summer’s tournament.
Roberto Martinez has unveiled his list for Euro 2020 and Eden Hazard is indeed part of it. The former Chelsea striker has been named to Belgium’s Euro 2020 squad following another injury-scarred campaign at Real Madrid. Eden Hazard has struggled to regain form since leaving Chelsea for Real Madrid in a € 100million deal in June 2019, with lingering injury issues preventing him from living up to the hefty price tag .
The 30-year-old only recently returned to competition after a muscle problem, but was included in Roberto Martinez’s final roster for this summer’s European Championship, which is due to start on June 11. Eden Hazard is one of the 26 players in the Belgian squad under the newly expanded tournament rules, with his Madrid teammate Thibaut Courtois also making the final as the country’s number one goalkeeper.
Meanwhile, nine Premier League players have been called up, including Leicester City trio Timothy Castagne, Youri Tielemans and Dennis Praet, and Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne. Inter’s Romelu Lukaku – Belgium’s all-time top scorer – was also included in the roster alongside Napoli’s Dries Mertens and Hazard’s brother Thorgan, who currently plays for Borussia Dortmund.

Hazard has only managed to play in 21 games in all competitions with Real Madrid so far this season, in the last game for Merengue’s 1-0 away win at Athletic Club on Sunday, the Belgian was on the bench. The former Chelsea star has just four goals and an assist under his belt but could have the chance to improve his stats when Zinedine Zidane’s side take on Villarreal in their last La Liga game of the season on May 22.
Roberto Martinez’s decision to select Eden Hazard for the Euro is likely based on his reputation and performances internationally rather than his exploits for Real Madrid in 2020-2021. The Red Devils star winger has 106 caps for his country to date, with 32 goals, and was Blegique’s strongest player in their last major tournament at the 2018 World Cup.
Eden Hazard will have a good chance of starting Belgium’s Group B opener against Russia on June 12 if he manages to stay healthy and injury-free until then, with matches against Denmark and Finland will follow for Roberto Martinez’s team to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition. Belgium is counting on a great Eden Hazard to finally be crowned at the Euro.
