Villarreal’s victory in the Europa League forced AS Monaco to play in the Champions League play-offs.
Third in Ligue 1, Monaco could avoid passing the delicate box of the play-offs on one condition: that Manchester United beat Villarreal in the final of the Europa League.
Monaco hoped for Manchester United victory
