With the end of the European championships, we know a little about the seeds of the next Champions League.
On Sunday, by winning the title of champion of France, Lille offered themselves a small bonus: to be seeded for the next Champions League. Indeed, the competition regulations provide that the champions of the six best countries in the UEFA index are placed in hat 1 together with the winner of the Champions League and the winner of the Europa League.
As a result, PSG, who placed second in Ligue 1, will not be seeded but will still be in hat 2 due to their excellent UEFA index (the Parisian club was a finalist in 2020 and semi-finalist in 2021).
Very heavy in the hat 2
The six best championships having finished, we therefore know many teams of the next Champions League.
Hat 1: Champions League winner, Europa League winner, Atlético de Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Lille OSC, Sporting CP.
Hat 2: Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, Sevilla FC.
Hat 3: Ajax Amsterdam, RB Leipzig, Atalanta Bergamo.
Hat 4: AC Milan, VfL Wolfsburg.
European finals will impact hats
It should be borne in mind that the result of the final of the Champions League (Manchester City against Chelsea) as well as that of the Europa League (Manchester United against Villarreal), will have an impact on the hats for several clubs.
Manchester United will inherit hat 1 if they win the Europa League but go into hat 2 if they lose. Ditto for Chelsea depending on their result in the Champions League final.
Zenith Saint Petersburg will be in hat 1 if Manchester City wins C1 but in hat 3 if Chelsea wins.
Borussia Dortmund can hope to join Hat 2 if Manchester City and Villarreal are crowned on the European stage. Otherwise, BVB will settle for hat 3. FC Porto is also in a toss between hats 2 and 3. But his case is simpler than that of Dortmund: a victory for City or a victory for Villarreal will give him a presence in the second pot.
Finally, AS Monaco can secure a direct qualification for the Champions League group stage if Manchester United defeat Villarreal. Otherwise, the Monegasques will have to go through the dams to qualify. In the event of a positive outcome, in front of his TV or in the field, Monaco will end up in hat 3 or hat 4.
