After taking revenge on Barça’s Remontada and the final lost to Bayern, PSG will try to exorcise again its old demons since they will cross paths with Manchester City, their executioner in the quarter-finals of the 2016 edition.
To reach the last four of the flagship UEFA event, Manchester City defeated Borussia Dortmund after a very pleasant game.
The BVB virtually qualified for 40 minutes
With his goal behind to fill, the BVB attacked the meeting foot to the ground and it only took a quarter of an hour for the locals to open the scoring. A goal consecutive to a game of billiards since Haaland, wanting to serve Mahmoud, saw his ball be blocked and arrive in the feet of Jude Bellingham who sent an unstoppable shot at the back of Ederson’s net.
At this point in the game, Borussia Dortmund had virtually qualified for the semi-finals. But Manchester City, sure of their strength, put their relentless steamroller on and began the siege of the cages of Marwin Hitz.
The Swiss goalkeeper was in a first saved by his crossbar on a powerful strike from Kevin De Bruyne (25th). He was then replaced by Mateu Mory (26th) then by Jude Bellingham (32nd) who cleared the ball before he crossed the line.
Can and Hitz’s dumplings
In the second half, Manchester City continued their offensives and in the 52nd minute, wanting to clear their camp, Emre Can made a header and the ball bounced off his hand. The referee indicated the penalty spot before being reinforced by the VAR. Riyad Mahrez transformed the sentence and allowed Manchester City to see the semi-finals (1-1, 55th).
BVB did not admit defeat and knew that a goal meant extra time. But by dint of uncovering, Dortmund exposed himself and Kevin De Bruyne took the opportunity to carry out a solo raid by erasing Can then Hummels but his shot was deflected for a corner by Hitz (74th). On the corner that followed, Phil Foden triggered a shot from the left and Hitz, yet so effective until then, committed a hand fault and the ball ended its race in the net (76th).
Led 2-1, Borussia Dortmund had to score twice to turn things around and qualify. But City intractable, no longer left the slightest chance for Dortmund to return.
