Leicester City are planning to strike a big blow by getting their hands on Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho.
The 29-year-old has failed to live up to expectations since joining the Catalan giants from Liverpool for € 120m. He has scored just 15 La Liga goals in 64 appearances for the Spanish giant. The Brazilian did not play for Barcelona in 2021 after suffering a serious knee injury last December. An injury that ended up requiring two surgeries.
Barça eager to give it up
According to El Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona want to separate Coutinho in order to reduce their payroll and among the clubs interested in the former interstate there is Leicester. The English club are willing to put up to € 23m on the table to achieve their ends.
Current Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers worked with Coutinho at Liverpool when they came close to winning the Premier League in 2013-14. And Leicester are mentioned as one of the few clubs interested in signing Coutinho, with Barcelona hoping that the competition on this record will help them best cushion the colossal investment they made on the Auriverde international in 2018.
