Marseille captain Steve Mandanda said he had no problem with having a rival in his post at OM.
Long untouchable as OM goalkeeper, Steve Mandanda could find himself in competition with another goalkeeper from next season. Or even relegated to the bench. Olympian officials are looking to recruit for the post, and rumors suggest they’ve already found what they’re looking for with Germany’s last bulwark Alexander Nubel.
This Friday, at a press conference, Mandanda spoke about this file and his personal situation. And, contrary to popular belief, he doesn’t mind seeing his status challenged : “There is nothing to claim, obviously there is a search for leaders to complete the list of goalkeepers. I am there, the competition I have it all the time. I have no problem with that, I’m very happy with it ”.
“If I didn’t feel like number 1, I would have left”
Mandanda is ready to accept competition. But, on the other hand, he warns; he will do everything to stay as the holder as long as possible. “Do I still feel ready to be number 1?” Yes otherwise I will be gone, I will have stopped it’s categorical. If I feel that I no longer have the form or the level, it is necessary to stop ”, he entrusted.
The oldest member of the Marseille squad since he has been playing there since 2007, the international goalkeeper is proud of his longevity. However, he admits that he does not yet realize what he has achieved within this club.. “I don’t think I realize, but that’s what allows me to question myself when things are wrong. I’m still a player, I devote myself fully to that, I will have time to realize when I quit, ”concluded the“ Fenomeno ”.
